Modification of the measures concerning the work permit

Renewable work permits are going to be delivered to the foreigners for a duration of one year thanks to a softening of the law approved by the Ministry of Employment.

Besides, the demands must be treated within one week maximum. Mr. Det Boonlong declared that the Ministry of the Employment modified rules further to the complaints

Concerning the delays in the liberation of work permits.

When the licence is refused, the applicants  have 30 days to appeal with the Minister via the principal private secretary or his assistants. The requests must be sent in

15 days in the service of the work of the foreigners which will pass on its remarks to the Minister, which will have to pronounce in 30 days.

They will have to pay no more than 1000 bahts a year ". So that the demand is acceptable, the foreigners have to perform one of the following conditions:

- work in companies having a capital declared by at least two million bahts for every recruited foreigner.

- work in companies having paid at least five million bahts of taxes (by recruited foreigner) during the previous three years.

- work in exporting companies which generate (by recruited foreigner, with a maximum of three persons) a local three million baht income in currencies

- work in companies which employ no more than five foreigners, with a report of 50 Thai employees for every foreigner.

- have paid personally at least 18 000 bahts of income taxes previous year.

- the foreigners who have never worked in Thailand previously have to supply the letter of hiring of the potential employer declaring that their salary will be at least 30 000 bahts

Monthly magazines if they are single and of 45 000 monthly bahts if they are married.

However, the Ministry of the Employment has the possibility of delivering or of renewing work permits without considering the payment of taxes in exceptional cases

Listed as follows:

- The representatives of international firms asked to verify the quality of products, purchases and position of the market.

- The councillors in investment, in management, in technology or in internal controls.

- The people working in the tourist industry who make foreign guests come in the country.

- The employees of institutes of international finance approved by the Bank of Thailand.

- The intermitents of the spectacle, the religious, social, cultural or sports works and which release the tax due to the state.

- The entrepreneurs in contract with public bodies.

- The staffs working on raw materials.

- The staffs working in sectors knowing a Thai working force shortage.

- Spouses of Thai citizens having a respectable employment.

The foreigners avid to occupy quickly a post in Thailand have to contact the Ministry of the Employment to obtain the license.
